Get Your Healthy On at the 2018 Gluten Free and Allergen Friendly Expo in San Mateo, CA

By: Irene Yang

The Gluten Free and Allergen Friendly Expos (GFAF) are the largest and fastest growing special diet consumer events in the US. Started in 2007, the events are professionally managed and have expanded from one to eight cities throughout the United States. In addition to meeting the needs of the Celiac community, the Expo welcomes those with gluten sensitivities, auto-immune/inflammatory diseases and autism.

Lucky for North Cali residence, the GFAF is coming to town in less than 2 weeks! As someone who embraces a mostly gluten-free diet, I went last year and it was amazing - so much to see, so much to eat and so much to learn.

A Vegetarian Delight: Taste Testing Thug Kitchen x Barilla Restaurants' Red Lentil Pasta

By: Finance Foodie

The other night, I headed down to the Barilla restaurant in Rockefeller Center to check out their latest menu offering. Partnering with the viral vegan cooking site Thug Kitchen, Barilla recently debuted a new limited-time menu item featuring Barilla’s Red Lentil Penne and Sundried Tomato Pesto and toasted almonds. Packed with protein and vegetarian friendly, I was excited to see what was in store.

Flavors Galore at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2017 in New York City

By: Finance Foodie

One magical time a year, the Specialty Food Association's Summer Fancy Food Show descends upon NYC, bringing lots of good eats and treats.  For three days straight, attendees eat and drink and be merry with over 1,000 purveyors peddling their sweet, savory, sour and spicy delicacies.

I always look forward to this blessed event - not only does my stomach thank me, but it's also a great way to see the newest products and coolest trends in food and drink coming to market. Below are a few highlights from this year's show.

A Modern Mediterranean Diet with Pangea Nutrition Meal Delivery

By: Finance Foodie

The Mister and I have always had a goal of cooking more and eating out less (super hard in Manhattan - the land of never ending delicious restaurants just waiting to be sampled). However, as we have gotten older and more aware of our health, we've decided to make a conscious effort on this goal.  When we found out of about Pangea Nutrition, a meal kit delivery service that has a modern take on the classic Mediterranean diet, we just had to give it a test run.

A Tasty Test: Lucky Spoon Gluten Free Muffins

By: Irene Yang

In short, Lucky Spoon Gluten Free Muffins are fantastic. They're a new player in the gluten-free baked goods market, and I can say that they're one of the best tasking gluten-free offerings I’ve ever had. Most gluten free goodies I've had are dry and crumbly, but Lucky Spoon has captured the perfect moist texture I've come to expect from normal baked goods. Beyond being gluten free, they're also preservative and trans-fat free, so you know you're getting something good.
I recently held a taste test with some other Tech Foodies (not many Finance Foodies in my neck of the woods - we are in Silicon Valley after all!). Below are our thoughts.

The CES of Food Shows: 2017 Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco

By: Irene Yang

Being an engineer in the Silicon Valley, I’ve tried to describe the Specialty Food Association's Winter Fancy Food Show to my coworkers many times. “Big food convention,” “giant snack show,” never quite hit the mark. However, I realized the perfect way to describe the glorious event of the Fancy Food Show: The CES of Food. All the new trends and interesting takes on what America is eating come out in full force in the Moscone Center in San Francisco every January. You didn’t think they could make coffee out of chocolate? Well they did. And it’s vegan. And gluten-free (probably).

Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec Celebrates a Small Business Revolution

By: Finance Foodie

The other day, I had the honor of attending a special press screening of the new 8 part mini-series Small Business Revolution, which showcases the transformation of Wabash, Indiana through its small businesses.  The online series, available to view now at smallbusinessrevolution.org and set to stream on Hulu beginning October 21, is hosted by the esteemed Shark Tank investor and son of immigrant factory worker Robert Herjavec and the affable Amanda Brinkman of Deluxe Corporation. As the Mister and I are big Shark Tank fans (we DVR every episode!), I obviously had to attend and check it out.

A Midsummer’s Weigh-In with Beets BLU Scale

By: Finance Foodie

As The Mister and I enjoy our summer cuisine largely consisting of juicy burgers, hearty BBQ and fruity frozen cocktails, I am constantly reminding myself about maintaining an active, balanced and healthy lifestyle.

And despite the humid weather, I am still determined to get my 10,000 steps in as part of my daily routine. While I can easily track my daily steps on my phone, I have no idea if I am actually maintaining weight or not. As such, I decided to try the Beets BLU Bluetooth Scale that can not only monitor our daily weight progression but the scale can also upload our data via Bluetooth to our phones for easy access and tracking!

Sweet and Succulent at Summer Fancy Food Show 2016

By Finance Foodie

The Specialty Food Association's Annual Fancy Food Show in New York City is probably one of my favorite things to attend - I mean, where else can you indulge yourself with over 150,000 types of food related items over the span of three days?
Welcome Indeed!
Think high end Costco on autopilot and you will get the picture. Like every year prior, I try to take as much in as possible, but alas I probably only hit less than 25% of the items. So until science can build me an extra stomach, you will just have to settle for some of the highlights I perused this year.

And the Award Goes To....Summer Fancy Food Show 2015

By: Finance Foodie

Every year when I attend the Summer Fancy Food Show, I try to come up with a game plan in order to maximize the sampling while minimizing the bloat in my stomach. Unfortunately, every year I fail at this, and this year was no exception.

New Apartment, New Art: CanvasPop Customized Art Prints

By: Finance Foodie

Now that the Mister and I have finally moved into our new home, it's time to start decorating! Our previous apartment had strict rental rules (i.e. no poking holes in the walls to hang art, no painting the walls any other color but white) but now that we have our own place, we can make the apartment really feel like a real home. Therefore, when CanvasPop gave us the opportunity to create our own customized art print as a house warming gift, we absolutely said, "Where do we start?!?"
