It's a Meat Feast: Boston Market's New Rotisserie Brisket and Prime Rib

By: Finance Foodie

Growing up, Boston Market was known as my spot for some juicy and tender rotisserie chicken (plus all the fabulous fixings on the side, especially that to-die-for cornbread). But now I hear they have expanded their offerings to the other white meat - beef!

The Redeye Grill: Great Steaks, Service And Sensational Sweets!

By: Anne M. Raso

My recent trip to Redeye Grill, the long-standing and chic eatery at the corner of 56th and Seventh, only proved the old staying that “some things, like fine wine, get better with age.” I have been here about six times in the past 15-20 years, starting with a press luncheon for P. Diddy given by Universal Music back when the record companies still had money to burn and digital downloads hadn’t taken over yet. The décor is a mélange of different looks—I would say it’s a classic New York Steakhouse meets Soho Loft Living with a touch of Old Hollywood added in for good measure. There are high ceilings with massive saloon style chandeliers and what seems to be enough seating for about 200 guests, plus private dining rooms. You see a lot of people celebrating milestone events in their lives here, so it’s a “special place” where the prices are not cheap—but you get quality AND quantity.

The Angus Club Steakhouse: A Prime Choice For Great Aged, Grass-fed Beef!

By: Anne M. Raso

To be straight and to the point, I adored my recent (and first time) visit to the Angus Club Steakhouse. Their supplier of meat is Master Purveyors (masterpurveyors.com), whom also supply such other wonderful New York steakhouses including Bobby Van's Grill, which I declared a year ago to have the best and biggest filet mignon in NYC. Well, when I bit into my filet at Angus Club Steakhouse, the aged, grass-fed meat (done medium rare) was so delicious and "buttery," that I swear I died and went to some sort of beef heaven!

A Mighty Meaty Meal at Texas de Brazil

By: Alex Loanzon

Following a gluttonous Thanksgiving Day meal, the Mister and I decided to continue on the path of excess throughout the weekend by going to a buffet on Saturday night - I mean, why quit while we're ahead (on the weight gain) LOL? Enter Texas de Brazil (TdB), an upscale Brazilian eatery featuring all-you-can-eat grilled meat carved tableside & a salad bar.

Morton's The Steakhouse: The Legend Lives On (And For Good Reason)!

By: Anne M. Raso

The luxurious Morton's Steakhouse on Fifth Avenue is as great as ever and I think ever steak maniac should have it on their "bucket list"! There is a nothing like a prime piece of Midwestern grass-fed beef grilled in a specially made broiler just for the restaurant--and you can watch from one of New York's most luxurious dining rooms that actually has a dark yet modern ambiance. Wait, let's make it more of a Hollywood glamour ambiance! The decor is definitely Hollywood movie star inspired with oversized ceiling lamps and comfy banquets with the wonderful, brightly lit cook staff area at the helm. On the trip downstairs to the restrooms, black and white photos of current Hollywood megastars line the walls including one of then late 30s George Clooney with Morton’s staff.

Strong and Satiated at Shabu Shabu Kobe Midtown Pre Opening Party

By: Finance Foodie

As the weather gets (finally) cooler, nothing screams fuzzy sweater weather better than a nice big pot of Japanese shabu shabu. For those unfamiliar with this delectable dish, shabu shabu consists of placing thinly sliced raw meat, vegetables, and noodles in lightly seasoned boiling water, then dipping the contents a variety of sauces and consuming with steamed rice. Not only is this dish fulfilling and flavorful, it is also healthy and low(er) fat due to the cooking technique. Last week, I was invited to check out Shabu Shabu Kobe, a soon-to-be-opened Japanese resto specializing in shabu shabu – of course I had to grab my fuzziest cardigan and head over to Midtown for a visit.

gLAMBping it Up with Asian Sensation BBQ Lamb Kabobs

By: Finance Foodie

When I eat meat, I usually put lamb at the top of my list. Tender, juicy and naturally full of flavor - all you need is a little olive oil and rosemary to bring out its succulence. Furthermore, lamb is nutrient rich, making it a natural fit for healthy diets. On average, it’s an excellent source of protein, vitamin B-12, niacin, zinc and selenium and a good source of iron and riboflavin. Plus, lamb has five times more healthy omega-3 fatty acids than beef!

Bringing Bison to Brunch at Ted's Montana Grill

By: Finance Foodie

Last weekend, the Mister and I were in Midtown Manhattan during noon time. Feeling hungry and but too lazy to travel far for food, we decided to stop by Ted's Montana Grill. I had been to this finance crowd favorite a few times before for dinner, but was excited to try their newly created brunch menu.

Premium Prix Fixe at Empire Steak House

By: Finance Foodie

Empire Steak House, owned and operated by the Sinanaj brothers (former waiters at Peter Lugers), recently opened a second outpost a few blocks from their original 52nd Street location in Midtown. After hearing through the grapevine about their $45 three course prix fixe surf and turf lunch, I knew I had to check it out - after all, it would be a shame to pass up such a good deal on two of my favorite foods.

Here Batter Batter at NYY Steak Midtown

By: Finance Foodie

I might not know baseball but I do know my steaks. So when I heard that NYY Steak, the premier steakhouse at Yankee Stadium, had opened an outpost right in Midtown Manhattan, of course the Mister and I had to check it out.

Bobby Van’s Grill Re-Visited: Can’t Get Enough Of The Juicy Stuff!

By: Anne M. Raso

I’ve said it before on financefoodie.com: here is nothing quite as rib-sticking as a classic steakhouse meal, and Bobby Van's Grill on 50th Street in Manhattan does the "steak and potatoes" thing with a wow factor. They keep their dishes pretty classic but they dazzle with special little touches that put a modern flair on their fare. Their entrees, salads, sides and desserts have simple names, but everything is made to the customer’s specs and portions are very large. Super-friendly and mega-efficient general manager Paul Modica has a background in meat, having worked at the famous Midtown Meat Market next to the Palm back in his teens, so he knows quality and exactly what the guests want. Did I fail to mention that he also paid his dues as a waiter at Ben Benson’s, another great New York steakhouse and was a manager at several other famous eateries over the years? This man knows his stuff but he won’t give up the name of BV’s meat purveyor (no doubt if every other restaurant manager knew about it, they’d be ordering from there, too)!

Richer than Rich at Davio’s New York

By: Finance Foodie

When I lived in Philadelphia for grad school, one of my biggest regrets was not hitting up Davio’s (even though I lived two blocks away). I had heard great things about this Italian Steakhouse so when they invited me to a special media dinner to celebrate their newest location that opened just last November by Grand Central – I just had to check it out.

Desmond’s Steakhouse And Grill: A Classic Midtown Steakhouse With A Modern Flavor

By: Anne M. Raso

I’m always happy to check out new steakhouses and Desmond’s in midtown was one I was especially eager to check out as fellow food writers told me they had a great time there, not only raving abut the steaks but also saying that they loved the fabulous trays of mixed raw and cooked seafood that have become diner’s favorite appetizers (although it is a meal in itself). I am a bonafide landlubber, so I stuck with the steak and traditional sides and sampled the eatery’s two most popular desserts.

More than Beef: Tasting Omaha Steaks' New Menu Items

By: Anne M. Raso

If you'll excuse the bad pun, I make no bones about loving Omaha Steaks--and not just their steaks. I find them very consistent in quality on all their products. They come frozen so everything can stay indefinitely in your freezer (which is super convenient) and they are always running specials so you can get their fabulous goods for very reasonable prices--often as much as 65 per cent off if you buy their "specials"! They also offer overstocks and every month there seem to be a few days of free shipping. I have written about the classic cuts of steak and poultry on financefoodie.com before. This time around, I am sampling their four newest items, which are very different from each other and not meant for only the steak and potatoes crowd.

Fun and Festive at Fogo de Chao Boston

By: Jessica Cickay

When the calendar page flips to November each year, I know it’s time for me to start training my stomach for Thanksgiving – the Boston Marathon of eating. Well, I definitely got a great workout in when I visited Fogo de Chao, the new Brazilian steakhouse located right in the Copley Mall in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay.

Brother Jimmy’s Revisited: This Time We’re Checking Out Their New Cookbook!

By: Anne M. Raso

I was lucky enough to attend the blogger's launch party for the Brother Jimmy’s BBQ cookbook called Brother Jimmy’s BBQ: More Than 100 Recipes For Pork, Beef, Chicken And The Essential Southern Sides last week and was able to sample some of the menu items that are exclusive to the cookbook and some that can actually be purchased at their numerous eateries in NYC. The book actually hit the stores in June and feature recipes from executive chef Eva Pesantez and owner Josh Lebowitz.

Meat Feast at Le Marais NYC

By: Finance Foodie

During my Wall Street days, my fellow banker friends and I used to treat ourselves (on the weekends where we managed to escape the cubicle) with food trips to the finest steakhouses in Manhattan. From Delmonico's to Wolfgang's, we'd drink, chat and dream of the day we would never have to bind another pitchbook.  Even though most of us have luckily moved on from that rat race, the tradition has remained. This weekend, we decided to try Le Marais for lunch, a Kosher-French butcher shop/steakhouse combo located in the heart of the Theater District.

Sipping & Savoring Harpoon Brewery Beer at Morton’s Steakhouse [Boston]

“One hundred bottles of beer on the wall…”

Truth be told, I was never a beer kind of girl - if any of you readers have had the (blessed!) chance of seeing me at a party, I’m always the one with the outfit-coordinated fruity cocktail in hand. Therefore, when the invitation to attend a Harpoon Brewery beer tasting at Morton’s Steakhouse arrived in my inbox last week, I was slightly hesitant to accept. However, after speaking with some of my beer “enthusiast” friends about Harpoon, they convinced me that I should go – as Harpoon is one of the leading craft beer brewers in the New England area. Plus, as a good foodie (or in this case drink-ie?), it’s my job to be adventurous and expand my palate :)

Taste Testing the New McDonald’s Angus Beef Wraps

“Coming back for more…”

A few weeks ago, McDonald’s sent me a few coupons to try their Angus beef wraps, the newest item on their menu. NY editor Anne gave financefoodie.com readers the first peak at these babies a few months ago, and I was salivating after reading her review (As many of you know, I try to eat organically and support local restaurants most of the time – BUT McDonald's is totally my kryptonite – I swear the sweet aroma of their fries hypnotize my brain cells!)
