Progresso Soup Cooking Set

Congrats #39 JanetFaye

Please email financefoodie [at] gmail [dot] com with your mailing address so I can send your prize! You have 3 days (72 hours) to respond or the prize goes to an alternate winner

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Bowling for Soup..."

For those who have been (un)lucky enough to try my cooking creations in the past, they will usually say "good effort" (and then politely excuse themselves from the rest of dinner). Since this has happened more times than I would like, I made a resolution at the beginning of this year to learn to cook. Now almost 11 months into the year, I still haven't made good on my resolve :(

Thankfully, the good folks at Progresso Soup stepped in and decided to send me a carton of their new chicken broth and panko bread crumbs yesterday (as well as a few cooking utensils) to help me get started. Knowing that I would not know what to do with these ingredients by themselves, they also included some helpful cooking tips and recipes from celebrity chef Michael Chiarello (which can also be found here Progressofoods.com and Progressobroth.com)! Hooray! I cannot wait to try these goodies out!

So here is the BEST part - the Progresso people decided that one of my readers should also get a giftpack (pictured above) just like mine! There are THREE ways to enter this contest:

1. Comment on this post answering the question: "What is your favorite thing to cook for dinner?"
2. Follow me on Twitter (leave a separate comment telling me this)
3. Twitter this contest (leave a separate comment telling me this)

Contest will close at 5pm EST on Oct 30, 2009. The winner will be chosen via random integer generator on that evening. Good luck!

First!

Best thing to cook on a weekday is something quick on the stove. I like to do fish (whatever's on sale), a veggie (asparagus is a favorite), and a starch (rice is best, but bread if in a real hurry).

Also, Sept 30 already passed... I assume you meant Oct 30?

I guess my favorite depends mostly on time. Although I try to plan ahead some days just lose hours so I have a mad dash at supper time.

It's nice to have a nice pot of soup or stew going on the stove this time of year. I try to make a soup 2 times a week. The other nights are a pasta dish, mybe a roast, add a fish dinner and a leftover night and I about have the week covered.

My favorite thing to make is to try and copy something we had at a restaurant. Like my hubby had venison stew which he loved and we saw a bayleaf in the gravy. There were mushrooms, meat, gravy and bayleaf and when I tasted it I tasted thyme so I knew that was also in there. One night I replicated it with pork tenderloin as I can't find venison and we agreed it was pretty close considering it was a differnt type of meat. Now we are looking for venison!
