Salad as a Meal: Egg Crepes with Mushrooms and Spinach Recipe

"Wonderful feeling, wonderful day..."

As part of my Salad as a Meal challenge, I said I’d be posting a few selected recipes from Patricia’s book, along with step by step pictures and commentary [in bracketed red font] on how I created the dish from my kitchen. So without further ado, may I present…

Egg Crepes with Mushrooms and Spinach

1 SERVING [cookbook gives instructions for 2 servings, so I basically halved everything]
EQUIPMENT: A 10-INCH NONSTICK CREPE PAN [I didn’t have this so I used a regular non-stick pan]; 1 WARMED PLATE

Sailing Away: Odyssey Boston Dinner Cruise!

"Rock the boat..."

Confession: I would love to live life on a luxury boat. Picture this: the freedom of sailing from one exotic local to another and having fresh from the ocean seafood cooked to order each day while the wind sweeps through your hair -- doesn't that sound like a grand old life?

Salad as a Meal Challenge: The Beginning

“Leaves of grass…”

If you are a long time reader of this site, you know how much I dislike salads (or what I fondly refer to as rabbit food). So when I got an email from William Morrow Publishing asking me if I wanted to participate in a month long challenge where I would replace regular meals with salad creations from Patricia Wells’ soon to be released cookbook (aptly titled) Salad as a Meal, I was like “heck to the no!” and deleted that note ASAP.

An Evening of Chocolate and Wine at the College Club

By: Jessica Cickay

When I was asked to attend “An Evening of Chocolate and Wine,” one of the classes offered by the Boston Chocolate School at the College Club in the Back Bay, I got a feeling that how to fit eleven Hershey kisses into my mouth or decorate my face with a wine mustache compliments of Two Buck Chuck were probably not part of the lesson plan. Had they been, I probably would’ve been asked to teach. Instead, executive pastry chef and chocolatier Dorian McCarron and wine expert Harry Silverstein led a group of classy ladies through six pieces of chocolate paired with six glasses of wine, showcasing and extolling their expertise for how to buy, how to pair and how to taste the best of the best of the eating and drinking worlds.

Top Chef's Angelo Sosa's Openz "Social Eatz" in Midtown Manhattan!

By: Anne M. Raso

We were recently invited to attend a special pre-opening tasting dinner at Social Eatz in Manhattan, which is co-owned by Chef Angelo Sosa, made famous on Top Chef's Season 7. Angelo wanted the theme of "comfort food with an Asian twist" and he's doing it right (if you want our opinion, we thought he should have not been eliminated from Top Chef -- but that's a whole 'nother story)!

Letting Go in La Paz and Loreto -- Baja California, Mexico!

By: Anne M. Raso

This financefoodie.com editor was lucky enough to recently go on a trip to La Paz and Loreto, Mexico--both towns are still non-touristy and there's only a 3-1/2 hour drive on Mexican Federal Highway 1 (AKA "The Transpeninsular"). The drive alone is worth doing because along the way there are really no rest stops or even many signs. It is pure rustic Mexico, with little man-made stands with thatched roofs along the way, often housed with ladies making homemade empanadas inside and bathroom facilities outside!

Jimmy Fallon Helps Launch Ben & Jerry's Newest Flavor Late Night Snack in NYC!

By: Anne M. Raso

On March 2nd, Ben & Jerry launched their newest flavor, Late Night Snack on the set of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon at the famous "30 Rock" building. Late Night Snack is flavor that is unusual not only because it stemmed out of a comic song about Ben & Jerry's performed by Jimmy Fallon and The Roots on his late-night talk show, but because it contains chocolate covered potato chips.

Hanging With The Honeymooners' Joyce Randolph in On Location's Classic New York TV & Movie Sites Tour!

By: Anne M. Raso

On Location Tours just premiered their new Classic New York TV & Movie Sites guided bus tour--so financefoodie.com got to spent a fun-filled afternoon touring the most filmed city in the world -- and totally got a nostalgic behind-the-scenes look at some of everyone's favorite Big Apple classics. This new tour offers a hearty bit of New York’s rich TV & film history and a chance to experience historical landmarks and sites through the angle of a camera lens. We recently took the tour with TV legend Joyce Randolph and on our way to get onto the bus with her, we met up with Sopranos star Jospeh Gannascoli (whom we have met on the On Locations Sopranos Tour twice and since have become Facebook friends with). On our tour with the still-gorgeous Ms. Randolph, we saw sites from The Seven Year Itch, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Apartment, The Honeymooners, Taxi Driver, The Way We Were, Manhattan, The Godfather, and many more.
