Shape Up Series: Cinnamon Buns (of Steel) Smoothie!

By: Finance Foodie

In the first part of the Finance Foodie Shape Up Series, I talked about the exercise plan I was going to take on to help me lose the leftover holiday p(f)udge. Here is what happened, one week later!
Week Two Stats
Weight: 138 lbs (down two lbs!!!)
Height: 5'1''
Body Fat: 24% (eeks again, but one % less than last week!)

Exercise Plan (and actual results in red)
Day 1: 45 minutes on the elipitcal trainer, level 5 – Check!
Day 2: 30 minutes on the recumbent bicycle, level 7; 30 minutes weight training using 5lb to 8lb weights – Check!
Day 3: 45 30 minutes on the treadmill, speed 3.5 3.0, incline 2.0 1.5 – Ugh I was feeling tired that day, plus I had a really stressful and busy day at work. Obviously not a great feeling that I slacked off, but I’m happy at least I made it to the gym!
Day 4: 30 minutes on the recumbent bicycle, level 7; 30 minutes weight training using 5lb to 8lb weight – All the bikes at the gym were in use when I arrived, so I pretended that was a sign from God that cardio was not in the cards for me that day. Ok so I was really just being lazy, but I did complete my weight training… check minus!
Day 5: 30 minutes on the elipitcal trainer, level 5; 10 20 minutes on the recumbent bicycle, level 7 – After two days of being a slacker, I completed this regimen and added an additional 10 minutes on the bike (although it was really because I wanted to finish watching Basketball Wives)…CHECK PLUS!
Day 6 &7: Rest – a very easy CHECK PLUS ;)

Now as most health and fitness experts would say, the key to healthy weight loss is a combination of exercise AND a well-balanced diet. So this week, I am going to share with you my favorite smoothie that I’ve been making every morning for the past week. Easy, filling, and delicious, plus a lot cheaper and healthier than Starbucks!

FF's Raspberry Cinnamon Buns (of Steel!) Smoothie
Serving: 8oz glass
Calories: ~160
--½ cup fresh Driscoll raspberries
--½ cup ice
--1 container of Yoplait Light Thick and Creamy Cinnamon Bun flavored yogurt
--1/3 cup 2% milk
--3 packets of Truvia sugar substitute (optional, but recommended to sweeten up the tartness of the raspberries)

Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth (~5minutes).

Check back next week for another update and a new recipe (and a giveaway)!

Congrats on the weight loss jumpstart! I love making smoothies with berries too. DO you ever use protein powder? Adding it to your smoothies will make an awesome post-workout snack. (might as well throw in some spinach too hehe, I love green monster smoothies). You can also try adding peanut butter for added protein. It'll def add some calories but it'll keep you fueled for hours!

I love berries in SALADS!

They really add a nice layer of flavor and texture. Sometimes I will also add a few berries to a vinegarette to mirror the flavors in the salad.

MY FAV. SALAD RIGHT NOW:
Mixed Baby Greens
Blackberries
Toasted Pecans
Red Onion
Shaved Parmesean Cheese

Blackberry Vinegarette

EASY, YUMMY, HEALTHY!
