Getting My Protein On: Pistachio and Almond Oatmeal Breakfast

During the days at my new job, the work is so hectic that grabbing a snack in between meals is near impossible. By lunchtime, my famished and cranky body usually heads towards the fastest and greasiest item in site (I'm looking at you Five Guys...). Fearing artery blockage and weight gain, I decided I couldn't keep living like this. After examining the situation, I realized the root of the problem was my nutrient and protein light breakfast of Dunkin Donut's iced coffee and bagel. Delicious at initial consumption, but no wonder I was starving by lunch.  Feeling creative and inspired, I rummaged through my pantry one day for a healthy concoction, and BOOM! - born was the Savory Protein Packed Oatmeal!

The Savory Protein Packed Oatmeal (SPPO) is a super duper quick, easy to make (and tasty!) combination of Wonderful Salt and Pepper pistachios, Wonderful raw almonds, Onion Crunch, skim milk and Better Oats instant oatmeal. High protein with a dash of carbs, this breakfast is calorie light but has a fullness that keeps me satiated and energetic until lunch!

Savory Protein Packed Oatmeal
Serving Size: 1
Calories: 335
Protein: 11g

1/4 cup Wonderful Salt and Pepper pistachios (80 cal, 3g protein)
1/8 cup Wonderful raw almonds (85 cal, 3g protein)
1 packet of Better Oats Classic instant oatmeal (130 cal, 5g protein)
2 tbsp onion Onion Crunch, for taste (40 cal)
3/4 cup skim milk (optional)
Dash of salt and sugar

Empty Better Oats oatmeal into microwave safe bowl. Add 3/4 cup water (or milk). Microwave for 2.5 minutes. Cool for a minute. Add Wonderful Salt and Pepper pistachios, Wonderful raw almonds and Onion Crunch. ENJOY!
