A Power Packed Business Lunch at Philippe's Restaurant and Lounge Houston

By: Finance Foodie

Philippe's Restaurant and Lounge, the “Texas Cowboy meets French Artist” themed resto by Chef / Owner Philippe Schmit, features a wide array of delectable yet approachable dishes for the Gallera/Uptown set. The lunch menu includes a vast variety of tempting delights (such as the parmesean + white truffle oil soufflé), but I opted for their signature Business Lunch – three courses, $20, and as they say, “gets you in, out and on your way”!

For my first course, I had the buttermilk fried calamari served with espellette pepper infused mayonnaise. Served crisp and hot, Philippe's calamari is a must-have for fried squid lovers -- and the spicy yet cool mayo dip is the perfect partner in crime!
Although the Tuna Confit Sliders sounded mighty fine, I decided to order choice #2, the rustically classic Coq Au Vin (braised chicken with lardons + oyster mushrooms, foie gras mashed potatoes) for my main dish. This was the right choice to warm me up from a chilly (for Houston) day, as the chicken was fall off the bone tender and full of flavor. I especially liked the foie gras infused mashed potatoes, which made the dish even more rich and hearty.
I was super stuffed and warm, but dessert I could not resist-- for the aptly-named French Cowboy Churros were calling my name! These fluffy cinnamon dough sticks served with a spicy chocolate sauce were just the right way to end a fantastic working lunch.
What's the best part about the Business Lunch? All the items on this pre fixe list are actual menu items -- and ordering each item separately would cost way more than $20. I'll be back for sure for my next business lunch -- Philippe's is delicious, efficient and makes picking up the tab not so tough on the wallet!
