Ming Tsai in 'Da House: Silk Road Gala 2010!

Last Saturday, I attended the Silk Road Gala 2010, or as I like to call it, The Gathering of Boston’s Culinary Greats. I kid you not readers, ALL the top chefs in the Boston area came out to the Intercontinental Boston for this party to support Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK), a non-profit that provides services and resources for New England area Asian families and individuals who suffer from domestic violence.

Unfortunately, my excitement (and appetite) for this event was tempered by an ironic and rather cruel twist of fate that would besot any foodie: I was unexpectedly food poisoned the night before! Cursing my love of undercooked sunny side up eggs, I managed to still make it to the event (because it takes more than food poisoning to stop me from supporting my fellow yellow brothers/sisters). But sigh – like a recovering alcoholic in a wine shop – all I could do was grasp my San Pellegrino sparkling water in sadness as I watched the other guests indulge on the delicious nibbles.

This dish was so cool, I thought it deserved another picture. The inside of the "crown" looked just as tasty (was totally drooling over this)!!
Chef Ming Tsai, Boston’s hope for the Next Iron Chef, chaired the gala so I totally expected there to be some type of culinary throwdown during the night *(well I was also tipped off by the memo sent to all the media sponsors). With Top Chef Masters Micheal Schlow (Radius) and Jody Adams (Rialto) on Team One and the legendary Jasper White (Summer Shack) and New York transplant Patricia Yeo (Ginger Park) on Team Two – this was a cook-off not to be missed…
…unfortunately, I did miss most of it –  the undercooked eggs came back with a vengeance and I had to rush home to the porcelain goddess! – readers / attendees, does anyone know which team won?

All and all, the night was short and not so sweet for me, but the important thing is that a lot of money was raised for a good cause. And that my friends, is worth more to me than eating all the shrimp dumplings in the world!
