Flavors Galore at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2017 in New York City

By: Finance Foodie

One magical time a year, the Specialty Food Association's Summer Fancy Food Show descends upon NYC, bringing lots of good eats and treats.  For three days straight, attendees eat and drink and be merry with over 1,000 purveyors peddling their sweet, savory, sour and spicy delicacies.

I always look forward to this blessed event - not only does my stomach thank me, but it's also a great way to see the newest products and coolest trends in food and drink coming to market. Below are a few highlights from this year's show.

Scream for Ice Cream

It's summer in the city, and when the back of your neck gets dirty and gritty, it's time for ice cream. America's favorite hot weather treat came from all regions, flavors and formats at the show. Some my favorites included Magnolia "Best of the Philippines" ice cream (with local Filipino flavors such as ube and sweet corn), San Francisco favorite Humphry Slocombe (their Blue Bottle brand coffee flavor is to die for!) and my/mo mochi's fabulous mochi bar.

Kool Kollaborations

I've loved Jelly Belly jelly beans since I was a young child and it's amazing to see how much the company has expanded its flavor offering throughout the years (i.e. Harry Potter beans, Tabasco beans, the list goes on and on!)

The newest JB flavors come from a partnership with another childhood favorite - Krispy Kreme doughnuts! So go ahead and have yourself a dozen Original Glazed, Strawberry Iced, or Glazed Blueberry Cake flavored beans - at only 5 calories a bean, it won't break the calorie bank but will leave you feeling like a cop in a candy store.

Popcorn Galore

Just like in the Winter Fancy Food show earlier this year in San Francisco, popcorn was all the rage. However, this is not your run of the mill movie theater butter corn - no, this is your gourmet flavored and sometimes kern-less popcorn worthy of a "fancy food" show.

So many flavors!

No Erik Estrada was not at the show to promote any chip brands (it was candy actually), but he caused a great deal of fan-girl/boy-ing while walking the aisles.
