How Sweet It Is: Celebrate National Caramel Popcorn Day with The Popcorn Factory

By: Alex Loanzon

One of my favorite snack items is popcorn. Specifically caramel popcorn. Growing up on Cracker Jacks, nothing made me happier than coming home after a long day at school to a sweet and salty goodness that was a treat to my mouth (with a bonus prize that was also treat for my pocket!)

Now that I'm a bit older and richer, its time to up my game with a more refined caramel corn. To commemorate National Caramel Popcorn Day (April 5th) and to satiate my taste buds, I celebrate by ordering some crack like corn from my favorite gourmet popcorn e-tailer, The Popcorn Factory.
The Popcorn Factory Popcorn....YUUUMMM!

To get my sticky icky on, I ordered a variety of dessert worthy caramel treats including the ooey-gooey-nice-and-fruity Caramel Apple Popcorn ($15), the chocoholic worthy Drizzle Caramel Corn ($20) and the Big Kahuna, super luxe, and Very Indulgent Popcorn (VIP) flavor Toffee Caramel and Sea Salt ($25). All were super delicious and worth the splurge (regular microwaveable popcorn - pshaw, not even in the same league!)

For those who want to know more about this fantastic food item, Marty Dennis, the Chief Popcornologist at The Popcorn Factory has some fun facts about caramel corn. Did you know caramel popcorn dates back more than 100 years, a predecessor, molasses-covered popcorn was introduced at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893!? Or that if you’re baking with caramel, you have to follow directions REAL closely – Marty warns that cooking on too high of a heat can burn it, and cooking on too low of heat will leave you with a sticky mess! Wanna know more? You can read up on additional info about the celebration/The Popcorn Factory/caramel corn at www.thepopcornfactory.com/national-caramel-week. Happy National Caramel Popcorn Day to all - it's going to be a real sweet weekend!
