A Taste of Westhampton in the West Village at Pizzetteria Brunetti

By: Finance Foodie

After winning rave reviews for their pizza at Pizzetteria Brunetti Westhampton Beach – father and son team Michael & Jason Brunetti opened their second location in New York City's trendy West Village last fall. The Mister and I happened to be in the Village the other night, so we stopped by for dinner.
Interior
The restaurant itself is small, cute and quaint - basically, your typical local West Village spot minus the pretentiousness. We were greeted by the affable owner Jason Brunetti, who can be seen in the restaurant most nights looking after the service and chatting with guests. In my conversation with Jason, I learned that Pizzetteria Brunetti is one of only a handful of pizza restaurants in New York City that use a wood-burning brick oven. There's nothing like watching the flames cook your pizza to a beautiful crispy crust perfection - so I was real excited for my meal!
Mary's Meatballs
We started off with the house special Mary's Meatballs ($13), two tennis ball sized all beef meatballs in an Italian tomato ragu with a dollop of fresh sheep’s milk ricotta. Rich, soft and juicy - the meatballs melted apart like a hot knife through butter - what a delicious beginning!
Vongole
I decided to try the signature Vongole pizza ($20), one of their most famous pizzas brought over from their Westhampton location. Freshly shucked and chopped local Long Island clams with garlic and herb butter sauce and fresh parsley finish, this pizza tasted like the table bread that you dip in a scrumptious linguine and clams pasta dish to get every last bite. Except the bread exceptionally good - wood burned crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
Zeppole
Given the richness of the meal, I was pretty full but Jason insisted I try their dessert, the Zeppole. This bite sized Italian doughnut served with a pot of Nutella was exactly what I needed to end the meal on a sweet note.

Although not the most affordable pizza joint in town, Pizzetteria Brunetti does provide fresh slices of goodness in a hip location that I would not hesitate to visit again.
