Thin Is In at Rizzo's Fine Pizza Co. LES

By: Finance Foodie

Living in the City, it's hard not to get the craving for authentic New York style pizza.  Forget the Papa John's or Domino's - the proximity to the old school stuff is just too close to pass up. Therefore, when I discovered that long time NY favorite Rizzo's Fine Pizza Co. recently opened up a new location on the LES - I just had to shimmy on over for a bite.
Outside
I started off the evening with their famous loaded garlic knots ($7) - hands down, these are the BEST knots in NY. Fluffy pieces of dough tossed with fresh garlic, olive oil, parsley and a blend of cheeses - then topped with bacon bits, marinara and basil pesto sauce - these pillowy pieces of heaven were delicious (but most likely not nutritious).

For my main course, I was tempted by the thin crusted round NY style, but went left at the last second by my very persuasive waitress and had their OG square Golosa pizza ($13). Topped with cheese, grilled chicken, mushrooms, onions, spinach and bacon, this 6 piece "personal" pie was served piping hot with ooey-gooey melt in your mouth cheese. Excellent. Just the way pizza should be served.

I was stuffed to the gills but had to try Rizzo's famous Pizzetta Nutella for Two ($9). A thin crust pizza with Nutella spread, chocolate chips and drizzled with chocolate sauce, this was the perfect grand finale to a super rich meal.

Bottom line: although Rizzo's is dangerous to any New Year's Resolution involving weight loss, this place really hits the spot without breaking the bank. I'll definitely be back again to try more of their concoctions.
