Just Say "Wen"! Chaz Dean Introduces New Products (And Brings His Beloved Dogs Along)!

By: Anne M. Raso

I was lucky enough to attend Chaz Dean's Fall/Winter 2013-2014 Hair & Body Care launch at the Gansevoort Park Avenue Rooftop recently and admit I was impressed with the new products I got to sample from the line. Dean has really kept with natural scents of the season, and his Fall Apple Spice Cleansing Conditioner will undoubtedly be a sellout. It truly smells like apple cider with cinnamon sticks--and guests at Dean's launch were more than enthusiastic to try the drinks that matched perfectly to the product. Like his other cleansing conditioners, Fall Apple Spice Cleansing Conditioner is soy based and features botanicals and natural oils that leave you with healthy hair. The fact that there is no detergent or stripping agents in his products make them some of the best on the market for maintaining color. There is a Fall Apple Spice Replenishing Treatment Mist and Treatment Oil to round out the set and I confess that I have been using the mist as a personal fragrance and just not as the final touch in my hair regime.

In December, the affable Dean is launching Winter Cranberry Mint and Bamboo Green Tea Cleansing Conditioners with treatment mists and oils to follow. The cranberry mint scent is highly invigorating and energizing (as you might expect), so this line will undoubtedly lift the spirits and not just tame your locks, LOL! Bamboo Green Tea is a much more subtle scent but Dean has snuck numerous floral, herbal and citrus oils in there (including those made out of Geranium, Grapefruit Peel, Lemon, Rosemary and Bergamot) to give the effect of walking through a garden and orchard planted closely together. I am already hooked on it!

Dean's event included a lot of relaxing out on one on of the gorgeous terraces on the lower Park Avenue hotel, drinks to reflect the names of the products (as mentioned before) and a visit from his white and black labs Spencer and Hunter with their respective nannies. These pooches are two of the best behaved I have ever seen and they get to fly around in private jets with their "dad"--who's to say "a dog's life" is not a good thing? LOL! You can see them on Dean's Wen Pets Conditioning Cleanser product label. (Sadly, the third dog that you see on the label--a black lab named Ella, short for Ella Fitzgerald--passed away in East Hampton from heat stroke after a hike with Dean back on June 23rd.) The dogs--which are 8 and from the same litter-- are bathed in the Pet Conditioning Cleanser once a week, accounting for their sweet maple scent!

Dean--who is originally from Clifton, NJ-- is one of the nicest guys in the hair business and he's been a Beverly Hills stylist since 1985. The four dozen journos and bloggers at the event enjoyed chatting with him and his staff and took away a lot of great hair tips for themselves and their readers.
