Sweet Endings: The Chocolate Bar at Cafe Fleuri Boston

By: Finance Foodie

This past weekend was my last weekend in Boston for Summer 2012. As my internship kept me quite busy (basically was in the office every weekend), I wanted to go out with a bang and celebrate in style. Obviously, I could think of no better place to do this than The Chocolate Bar at Cafe Fleuri, located in the oh-so-elegant and newly renovated Langham Hotel.

Now in its 24th season, The Chocolate Bar brings more than 120 all you can eat dessert combinations to diners every Saturday afternoon (complete with guest DJ that spins some pretty sick tracks). From the make your crepe station to designing your own ice cream creation to a chocolate fountain fondue, this real life Candy Land is literally what sweet dreams are made of. Plus, after three weeks of an almost all ProBar and Krave beef jerky Fashion Week diet, I was absolutely ready to indulge my sweet tooth.

Here are some highlights from my afternoon of delights!
In my first plate (and favorite) plate, I dove right in to the chocolate (obvi - this place isn't called The Chocolate Bar for nothing!). I started with a deconstructed S'mores Cup, an Espresso Opera Cake, a Pistachio Hazelnut Cake and a Chocolate Banana Creme Pie topped with a Vanilla Meringue. All of these fantastic, but the S'mores Cup stood out by far. The uniqueness of the concept and the perfectly paired toasted marshmallow, graham cracker crumble and chocolate mousse was super decadent - this dessert alone got the party started in the right foot.
I don't care what all the haters say about cupcakes being a dessert "trend" and how it's "over" - I still have love for it all the same! The Design Your Own Cupcake station is super sweet (literally) - you start with a base cake of either vanilla, chocolate (obvi), carrot or red velvet and add your choice of frosting and toppings. It would of been really baller if there were more varieties and flavors, however I wasn't too disappointed - as there was more than enough other dessert selections to try.
Call me old fashioned, but the oldies but goodies candy bar jar reminded me of my childhood days of sneaking Dum Dum pops from my teacher's desk (yeah - I was a bad kid back in the day)....
The main table of chocolate desserts - love love love how everything is served mini style and is gorgeously presented - make gorging on dessert feel much more classy!

The Chocolate Bar is open on Saturdays (September - June) from 11am to 3pm. The all you can eat bar is $40 for adults and is an fantastic place for a birthday party, bridal showers or simply a treat after a summer of hard work and intense learning!
