A Pirate's Life: National Rum Day on August 16th!

"Yo ho ho..."

For centuries we’ve enjoyed the versatility and refreshing taste of rum as the go-to drink of seafarers, islanders and the land-locked alike. So wherever you are - beat the summer heat and continue this tradition by celebrating National Rum Day on August 16. To kick off the celebration, crank up the Caribbean tunes, light the barbecue and invite your friends over for a night of rum revelation!

Whether you enjoy the rum neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail, enjoy National Rum Day with a delicious drink and revel in these precious last days of summer surrounded by good friends and libations. As soon as they walk in the door, hand them a classic rum cocktail to get the party started...here are two recipes from Boston and the Cape to help inspire!

Turbinado

2 oz of Brugal Añejo
1 oz Fresh squeezed lime
.75 oz Demerara syrup
Dash of Angostura bitters
1.5 oz ginger beer

Shake ingredients and serve in a highball glass filled with crushed ice, top with 1.5 oz ginger beer. Garnish with bitters and a mint sprig.

Pineapple Mojito

3 oz Brugal Añejo Rum
1 oz Triple Sec
1 oz Pineapple Juice

Muddle in shaker 2 slices of pineapple, 4-5 wedges of lime and 6-8 leafs of mint. Fill shaker with ice and all ingredients. Shake and serve in a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with mint sprig.
