Summertime and the Living's Easy: Aragosta Boston Blogger Patio Party

By: Finance Foodie

After what seemed like never ending of snow, wind, and rain, the Weather Gods finally gave Boston a break last Wednesday evening. And good timing too (at least for moi!) -- as the newly opened Aragosta Bar and Bistro in the Fairmont Battery Wharf hotel was hosting a blogger party on their patio that very night. Yours truly was in attendance of course, so take a look at some of the highlights of the night after the jump!

Summer in the City: Bambara Cambridge Patio Opening Party!

By: Jessica Cickay

Exactly two months ago marked the first time in my 25 food-filled years that I tried red meat. I’m not a vegetarian, I’m not religious and I’m not against eating animals – I just was never fed a cow (or a pig, for that matter) and always deemed everything from a quarter-pounder with cheese to a filet mignon non-options. My random rebellion began one night with a single taste of my boyfriend’s burger, and let’s just say it was love at first bite. Luckily, my dabble into the meat department came just in time for an outdoor BBQ on the patio of Bambara in the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge, where Chef Jay Silva served up a rainbow’s variety of sliders that could satisfy herbivores and omnivores alike!

Cool Summer Drinks: Taste Testing the McDonald's Frozen Strawberry Lemonade and Seattle's Best Iced Canned Coffees

"Hot town, summer in the city..."

As the weather starts to warm up (well...in Boston, EVER so slowly), nothing makes me happier than chilling on my apartment complex's rooftop with a nice cold beverage. Since one of the (awesome!) job duties as EIC of financefoodie.com is getting the scoop on all things new, cool, and yummy, I decided to do a little taste test of two new summer drinks that have hit the market: McDonald's Frozen Strawberry Lemonade and Seattle's Best line of Ready to Drink Iced Coffees. So what did I think? Read on and see!

Asian American Commission of Boston Unity Dinner at Hei La Moon

By: Finance Foodie

Hei La Moon on Beach Street has always been my go-to spot when I get a hankering for dim sum in Boston. Why do I like it? A. It's authentic. When you are surrounded by a sea of 95% Asian patrons all aggressively clamoring for food from the rolling food carts, you know you're in the right restaurant. B. It's cheap. A full table of food usually runs $10-15 per head.  C. The space is large and the turnover is quick (usually since the waiters are pushing you out the door as soon as you finish your meal, but I don't mind -- this means less of a wait for those days I show up late).

Summer (Indoor) Picnic Essentials for the Urban Dweller!

By: Finance Foodie

Ahhh summertime is just around the corner (in Boston, this means it's safe to go outdoors now without a heavy jacket). Time to hop into shorts, get out those sunnies, and go for a picnic in the park!

Summer Beauty Makeover with L’Bel, Australian Gold and Goody Hair Accessories!

By: Finance Foodie

One of my main job duties as EIC of Financefoodie.com is attending events – and I mean lots of them! From restaurant openings to new product launch parties to charity galas – I go wherever and whenever in order to keep my readers up to date on what’s hot in the Boston and NYC area!

It may sound like a fun gig (and I do thank my lucky stars I have the opportunity to do this!), but it can get uber exhausting looking good and fresh for every envelope opening. Since summer is fast approaching, I decided I needed a brand new look for the new season of parties. Luckily, my friends at L’Bel Beauty, Australian Gold, and Goody hair products are only a speed dial away, so they graciously sprinted to my doorstep in helping me achieve my new look!

So check out my transformation from “not” to “hot” (well, better than before) after the jump!

American Girl: The Gift That All Real-Life American Girls 10 And Under Want!

By: Anne M. Raso

We don't have to tell you that the American Girl store on Fifth Avenue is so packed that often one must stand on a line outside the store behind a velvet rope to enter--and reservations at the cafe there must be made three months in advance (if you want to go there in less than three months, we strongly suggest trying for a Monday night dinner ressie). American Girl is the most popular brand of gift in ANY category for girls under ten, so with all the First Communions and birthday parties going on this month, we wanted to present a few top American Girl picks in all price ranges. Face it--girls prefer this in lieu of cash gifts that parents will place in a bank account in the kids' name and not let them access 'til age 18!

A Foodie Weekend: Rock Bottom Brewery, BoYo Frozen Yogurt and M Bar [Boston]

By: Finance Foodie

I have been called the “finance foodie” ever since my sophomore year in college at Texas. It was that year my five best friends and I formed our Supper Club – no matter how busy we were, we would always make time one day each week to get together, catch up and try a new dining spot in town. I would look forward to our weekly meetups; not only was it a chance to try a new local delicacy, but it also was a great time to reconnect with good friends after a long week of learning the “Other F” (Finance). Even though the five of us decided to live in different parts of the country after graduation (Houston, New Orleans, Palo Alto and Boston), we still take the time our of our busy lives to regroup annually for a weekend to take a trip down memory lane!

This year our meetup spot happened to be…you guessed it – Beantown USA! As the “Head Foodie” host, I wanted to make sure my BFFs experienced the best of the Boston food scene – in every price range (after all, this was the first visit to Boston for a few of my buds – first impressions last a lifetime!). It was a merry weekend filled with laughter, gossip, and (of course!) good food and drink -- below are some of our foodie highlights!
