Betsey Johnson's Birthday Party [New York]

by: Erin Douglas

Wednesday, August 17th 2010 was a big day for fashion designer Betsey Johnson. It was her 68th birthday and she wanted everyone to celebrate at her SoHo NYC store! Yes, the over-the-top edgy fashion designer is still going strong with her funky bold colors, big puffy girly dresses, and her cartwheels down the runway. Betsey has found a way to fuse the girly-girl in pink with the edgy girl in black and maybe a tattoo into all her designs. Her love of a little bit of everything shows in the clothes she makes and the girls who wear them.

For the party, the already pink Soho boutique turned even more glamorous with a group of girls in big shiny Betsey Johnson dresses that greet us as we walked on the pink carpet to her birthday bash. The boutique was any girls dream (especially for a birthday party) -- young and old, full of dresses with lace and tulle, glittery shoes, cupcakes and treats, music and tons of people ready to shop, eat and mingle.
Girls in pink cocktail dresses walked around the small store serving a variety of delicious treats like mini ice cream cones and mini brownies. But I must say my favorite of them all was the Tres Leche bites served on a small pink spoon -- Yuuummmm!
The drink table was crowded the entire time - the Chambord Lemonade cocktail they served helped keep all the guest cool throughout the evening.
Well, with a room full of pink, tons of clothes, shoes, sweets and people who love you and what you do - what more can any girl ask for? Happy Birthday Betsey!
