Sitting with the Mean Girls at Cafeteria Boston

By: Finance Foodie

A few weeks back I went to Cafeteria Boston for dinner. Although this place is not from same owners of the “seen to be seen” Cafeteria NYC, it bears an uncanny resemblance to its NYC counterpart - both feature a lovely outdoor patio filled with tables of girls who carry bags the size of their bodies and wear sunglasses the size of their face. Nevertheless, as I stepped through the doors and past the black curtains, I prayed that at least the food would not resemble the sub-par dishes from Cafeteria NYC.

Rustic New York in Blue Hill Stone Barns

By: Coco Shiao

Blue Hill at Stone Barns is a restaurant set in a beautiful, rustic farmhouse with rolling hills and pastures located 30 minutes from Manhattan in Pocantico Hills, New York. According to people who have been to both, this location supposedly knocks the socks off of its sister Manhattan location. My friend and I came for their Sunday brunch and sat right next to a window so we could gaze out at the clear blue sky and fluffy white clouds as we enjoyed our meal.

Shake Rattle and Roll: The Rattlesnake Bar and Grill Boston

By: Finance Foodie

Since my social outings usually run parallel to the weather outside, the latest string of bad snowstorms had reduced my days to camping out next to my space heater and watching endless amounts of trashy TV (Bromance anyone?). Feeling a bit “cabin fever-ish” (and fearing I’d morph into the crazy writer from The Shining), I decided to brave the freezing winter weather to attend a birthday party at Rattlesnake Bar and Grill this weekend.

How Sweet it is: Food Network's SWEET Party

By: Finance Foodie

As I look back on 2008 (during my 6 hour deathly boring train ride), I reflect on all the magnificent foodie adventures I have had and the amazing friends and family that shared in my journeys. Feeling nostalgic, I remember my favorite event of 2008: the New York Wine and Food Festival’s SWEET party (sponsored by the Food Network).

Held in the late 2008, the SWEET party celebrated all things dessert. Translation: over 100 booths of succulent samples created by some of the most highly regarded dessert chefs in the city (i.e. François Payard, Johnny Iuzzini). Both my foodie friend and I, who believe a meal is not complete without a happy ending (as in a dessert…get your mind out of the gutter!), were uber-excited when we arrived at la.venue, the site of the party. The loft-like space had been transformed into a beautiful pseudo-ski lodge, complete with cozy fur rugs and couches, DJ Sam Ronson (LiLo's gf) spinning funky tunes, and most importantly, an open bar. I had a delightful chocolate mint smoothie shot, which was served on a Target ice sculpture by a charmingly dressed ski elfin (note: Target sponsored the makeshift ski lodge). What a wonderful beginning to our evening!
so cool (literally!)
