About the Asian American Diabetes Initiative (AADI): Approximately 24 million people (8 percent of the population) have diabetes in the United States. Asian Americans are nearly twice as likely to develop diabetes as the general population—approximately 10 percent of all Asian Americans have diabetes and even more remain undiagnosed. This issue requires immediate attention because Asian Americans are one of the nation’s fastest-growing minority populations. Recognizing this need, Joslin Diabetes Center founded the AADI in 2000. The AADI’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and health outcomes for Asian Americans living with diabetes through research, education, outreach and culturally appropriate treatments.
